Patina on Brass, Mounted on wood
W12” x H12" x D1”
Corroded Contemplation is made on a brass sheet that was left to corrode before being drawn back into. The sheet was oxidized with vinegar and left to rest for weeks, until green, blue and rust patinas rose to the surface. Some of these were kept, color was added where needed, and a grid was engraved back to the bare brass. The drawing is precise, the patina wild, and a clear lacquer holds the moment in place.
The piece draws on the former industrial area around the artist’s Brooklyn studio, where fences and façades are slowly being reclaimed by plants and rust. It imagines a city that lets nature return, with green corridors running through the grid we built. Its visual language echoes early-twentieth-century European modernism and an inner landscape of dilemmas and unexpected patterns.
